remember this moment...
If you have anything to do with weddings, photography, or both you know that when it comes to wedding photography the buzzword is "photojournalism". It's been this way for years, as the industry has changed so have the hot terms and how people describe what they want. I get lots of questions about my approach to weddings and I try not to use the term "photojournalism" because it's not really my approach. If I were a photojournalist, I'd never talk to my clients, give them direction throughout the day or try to influence the shot in any way. My clients can tell you thats not the case at all. I'm always scouring for the best environment for a series or giving subtle direction on a wedding day. When you mix a couple's natural personality with great light; thats a recipe for a killer photo! With that said, I LOVE the moments that naturally happen, and I can capture them just as they are without any direction at all. It's icing on the cake when the light and environment contribute to the photo. Take this moment below for example. We had just finished up with Kyle and Laura's wedding party photos on the lawn of the Oklahoma History Museum and we were all headed in to check out the reception decor. They had a quick conversation as they walked up these huge, dramatic stairs. Just the two of them not long before they became husband and wife... no doubt a moment they'll want to remember.

PS...They got married August 23rd, which means I'm caught up! Whammy!

Cody & Jenn's awesome concert wedding...
One of the greatest things about my job is that I get to see how everybody chooses to live life, down to the most personal details. Theres no better indicator of the personality of a couple than their wedding day, it's like a microcosm of their take on life. Some of us enjoy a luxurious, grand wedding with hundreds of guests. Whereas, others of us enjoy a elegantly simple backyard ceremony with close family and friends. And then there are those of us who enjoy getting married in the middle of a rock concert. My friends Jenn & Cody took the idea of letting their personality shape their wedding day to a new level. Cody and Jenn both love art and music, good food and drink and having a great time with their friends and family...and thats exactly what their wedding day was! I remember in our consultation when Jenn tried to explain her vision to me, half way through I said " I'll be there, even if I'm not the photographer!"
It was the most fun I've had in a looong time.So here's how it worked... They invited all their guests to a concert, told them to wear their concert t-shirts and come ready to have a good time. Grandpa Griffith and Lisa Curl brought the thunder with their hilarious musical stylings. They tied the knot right in the middle of the concert. There was even a feature song written just for them performed by Lisa Curl and GG lead singer Aaron Copeland. In the true sense of celebration, the ceremony included a free for all dance time where guests were invited up to the stage to cut loose.
On a serious note, I'm not sure I'll ever be part of a more fun, genuine and personal celebration. It was legendary. I could probably blog three times the photos here, but you probably have a real job and I'd hate to get you in trouble with your boss. Now on to the photos, I'll provide a little commentary along the way...

Jenn crafted her bouquet herself...

Yep, thats purple!

the guys did a mustache theme, how awesome is that.

just your everyday wedding party photo...

some rowdy wedding guests...

Grandpa Griffith's presence makes Chuck Norris pee his pants...

Isn't that just my luck! If I had know this was available when I went into business I would have never gone to all those workshops, read books, scoured the library and forums for random bits of knowledge or invested thousands in equipment!
Who knew!
You've gotta read this, it's hilarious!

Marcus & LeAnn's wedding...
Well, I'm back in the blogging saddle bringing you may favorite shots from LeAnn & Marcus's wedding at Life Church. They had one of the most personal ceremonies I've ever seen, it was an honor to help them remember it! What you may probably notice is that Life Church is quite different from most of the historical churches we normally shoot at. That gave me a special challenge to find the best lighting and backdrops for their portraits. I really liked the challenge and the change of pace, I think we came away with some good images!
Marcus & LeAnn, we wish you the best!

This week I added a sweet new slideshow tool for weddings and portraits. It make the images so much bigger, which is always better! I'm still getting it fine tuned, but click here to check out David & Krista's slideshow from 3 weeks ago at the Dominion House in Guthrie.
